Philadelphia Street Style: Aaryn, Walnut St
I swear I do not go out of my way to photograph professional models. It just turns out that the people I find appealing are often appealing to advertisers as well. Does that mean I have commercial taste?
I caught Aaryn coming out of an Urban Outfitters while I was waiting for someone else to come out. Serendipity, no doubt. I like the way she pairs Doc Marten boots with Daisy Dukes, and a Louis Vuitton (genuine or not) handbag with a plastic Urban Outfitters shopping bag. She works well with contradictions.
I hate to admit it, but the entrance to Urban Outfitters is a great place to scout for subjects. That, and the entrances to H&M, American Apparel, and Ubiq, a Philadelphia streetwear company. I want to despise what UO puts out. I already despise their politics. But I can't quite bring myself to do it. They've adapted themselves well to changing times and changing demographics. 5 years ago UO was a hipster-culture bargain basement. Now it caters more to the hip(ster)-hop crowd.
